“Ask the Dust” is one of the most important series in the work of Romain VEILLON. It’s dedicated to the town founded in the desert of Namib in 1908 by German settlers. At that time, this town named Kolmanskop produced 11% of the world’s diamond mining. However, by the 60s, the last residents leave their majestic stone houses, returning them to the sands of the desert. Today, Kolmanskop has become the ghost town, crossed only by tourists who venture into the region.
By this work, Romain VEILLON pays tribute to this particular place. The photographer highlights the strength of nature that always takes over its rights, as well as the ephemeral side of human constructions.
