ALESSANDRO PIREDDA

Born in 1974 in Riccione, Alessandro PIREDDA lives and works in Misano Adriatico. He developes a passion for the history of architecture during his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Rimini. Surrounded since childhood by the emblematic monuments of classical Italian architecture, he absorbs eagerly all the information relied to this subject. The artist considers that these are the illustrations made by the studio Fratelli Alinari for manuals, which became the first source of inspiration for his future work. Soon enough, he discovers that it is the perspective that fascinates him the most in architecture. At the same time, his enthusiasm for the work of a renowned Italian designer Albe Steiner brings him a strong sensitivity to sober, graphic and elegant forms. After the accomplishment of his studies in the history of art and architecture, he decides to learn a graphic art, as well as a photography in Ravenna in order to be able to elaborate his own artistic project. The photography has became for Alessandro PIREDDA a medium that allows him to gather all his passions on a single shot.

“Darkitectures” is a fundamental series in the work of Alessandro PIREDDA. It is a continuous project, spreading around the most iconic buildings. Through his lens, the photographer shows another life of the well-known monuments. Isolated from a crowd of tourists, these buildings stand out from the shadows, giving us the feeling of a parallel universe. These photographs literally bring out an impression of eternity. The intelligent choice of lighting effects and the purity of lines compose the very essence of his work. The unique artistic vision of Alessandro PIREDDA has brought “Darkitectures” to the final stage of « Sony Photography Awards ». This series was exhibited at Somerset House in London in 2017. Since then, Alessandro Piredda regularly participates in the largest and oldest art fair in Italy, Arte Fiera, while continuing to photograph the most beautiful buildings in the world.
