Tulip

The tulip is a bulb plant historically native to Turkey. Its name also comes from the word “tulbend trick” meaning “turban-plant”. The introduction of this plant to the West in the 16th century is attributed to Charles de l’Ecluse, although it is likely that it was already known there. It then met with massive success, especially in the Netherlands with Tulipomania responsible for a speculative bubble. Tulips are planted in the ground in mid-October and their cycle ends in May. There are over 5,000 varieties.
