Ellis Island

Dans cette série d’images, Stephen WILKES se prête à la photographie urbex. Il capture les locaux désaffectés d’Ellis Island, porte d’entrée historique des immigrants arrivant aux Etats-Unis. Suite au départ des services de l’immigration en 1954, l’île fut abandonnée, laissée sans habitants ni vie. Stephen Wilkes saisit alors la déchéance de ce lieu, ancien passage obligé pour tenter le rêve américain. En dépit des ravages du temps, il parvient à le sublimer et à susciter une réflexion sur la décadence.
