Bertrand DELAIS
In the fiber of Japanese paper, Bertrand Delais discovers the imprint of a tree in the heart of a landscape, the tender caress of the petals of a rose, and the blue of a hill in the twilight light. Nature becomes his main subject, without human presence, in spaces without borders where color and material blend harmoniously. He makes clean cuts, plays with reflections in a mirror, and pushes the sensitivity of the film to its limits, until it loses its granularity. These experiments guided him towards an aerial pictorial style, flirting at times with abstraction. The texture of the photographic print creates the illusion of a lost watercolor, even though everything is the result of photography. Bertrand Delais took the time to stroll past the still lifes of the Musée d'Orsay and observe the works of Saul Leiter and Sarah Moon.
