In Over series, specifically, Cássio Vasconcellos worked with images made in junkyards in Brazil, especially in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states, and in the USA, in Arizona. The series title is a reference not only to excess in the images, the overflow of visual information in our culture, creating an all-over effect, but also to the camera angle the photographer used. Cássio Vasconcellos wanted to create powerful images that could engage the viewer, leading them to rethink how our species lives. These photos may look like post-apocalyptic scenarios, but they could be our future. We still have to learn that by throwing things away and taking them out of our sight, we don’t make them disappear. In fact, they keep existing somewhere else, outliving us most of the time.
